I have many trusted resources to send people!
Several years ago I joined this organization when it was National Aging In Place Council. At the time, I had an emergency response systems business. I thought the name of the organization was a perfect fit for my business.
In 2014, NAIPC became our own entity and incorporated under the name of Maryland Senior Resource Network (MSRN).
Now I have many trusted resources to send people when they are in need of help with things like; where to go for a companion or aid for a parent; who to talk with about a facility that is right for their parent, grandparent; who to recommend for handyman services or even who can help a senior with their checkbook.
All these people are known to me personally and I find trustworthy and honest. The resources in MSRN are all high-end professionals, who I find I would not hesitate to refer a potential client to.
Cindy took the burden off Dad
My brother and I couldn’t tell my Dad anything. He wouldn’t let us help with his bill paying or all the paperwork necessary to get the Long Term Care company to pay for the in-home caregivers for our Mom who was struggling with Parkinson’s. Dad was at his wit's end and so were we.
Thankfully, his neighbor suggested he contact Cindy Stevens of Personal Financial Solutions. It blows our minds how Cindy quickly assessed the situation, reassured Dad and made a huge difference in reducing the stress level Dad, and frankly the whole family, was under.
We stopped getting the late-night phone calls from Dad in panic mode over paperwork he didn’t understand. Last year’s taxes finally got to the CPA. Bills that were past due were brought up to date. Cindy worked with Dad to obtain long term care claim payments from the past 6 months that Dad had been struggling with.
And most importantly, by taking the burden of the paperwork off Dad, he was able to spend more time with Mom before her passing. Cindy has been a blessing to our family and we highly recommend her!
Helped us through some difficult family issues
We had no idea where to find the right fit for my mother in her final days. Deborah, whom I had met earlier at a networking event, was the person I contacted. Deb worked with us through the entire process, including some difficult family issues.
She was professional at all times, but also was sympathetic with our situation, and lined up the perfect place for mom. I cannot emphasize strongly enough how helpful Deborah was.
This difficult decision was made much easier because we found the right person to get us through the myriad of options out there. When the need arises, I cannot think of a better person to help you with the tough decisions that need to be made at times like this.

Baygroup (Melissa Barnickel) was very responsive to our many questions and concerns as we endeavored to identify the policy that would most meet our needs. She listened to us and helped us sort through mounds of options (many carriers, plan designs for both traditional long term care insurance and life insurance with a long term care insurance rider).
She and her assistant, Debby Lawrence, "held our hands" through every step of the process, and made sure we understood what we were doing "in the now: and what would come next. We had been delaying doing this (buying long term care insurance) for a number of years-- never feeling like we had met the right agent to work with.
Meeting Melissa changed that, and we are SO glad to have met her!

The Option Group and I have worked together on a number of situations where a client has no children and no relatives in the immediate area. We work together to create a dome of protection for the client encompassing medical management, quality of life, financial and insurance oversight and ensuring the client’s end of life wishes are being set up and then ultimately fulfilled.

Last year I asked Patti Farrell to come to my house and go over my reverse mortgage contract to see if it could be improved. I was most impressed with Patti. She explained everything in plain English so I could understand the math lingo. Fortunately, I have a good contract and a re-finance would not be an improvement. I thank Patti for reviewing this with me so I am comfortable with what I have. And for speaking a language I understood!
Learned valuable information from a member's presentation!
A longtime client of mine called this week worried about her elderly mother. She had been living independently and doing well until a recent hospitalization. During and after the hospitalization, however, her memory and ability to care for herself diminished significantly.
Thanks to Michelle Fritch’s presentation at a recent MSRN meeting, I knew that medication during changes during hospitalization can unmask or even cause these types of declines.
Within minutes, I emailed Dr. Fritch’s contact information to my client with the confidence that her mother would be evaluated by a dedicated and trustworthy professional.

MSRN is a select group of professionals who provide services to meet the variety of needs of older adults. When I attended my first MSRN meeting as a guest, I was astounded by the amount of energy in the room and the excitement the members had about their businesses and MSRN. I was welcomed immediately and began making connections instantly.
I have only been a member for a short period of time, but have already made valuable relationships that will serve as resources for me as I continue to grow my company. There is a sense of community and mutual respect at MSRN that gives me a feeling that the members are all there not only for the benefit of their companies but also for the benefit of their clients.

In my line of work as a Professional Daily Money Manager I refer to a diverse collection of individuals and businesses for the various needs of my clients. MSRN is my trusted source for vetted, motivated and caring people to fulfill the needs of my clients.
These needs run the gambit, for example, Senior Handy Services was brought in to install new locks and no trespassing signs at a property of a recently widowed gentleman who requires 24/7 home care companions due to his declining mental status. Not only did Craig send someone to do the work, since the situation was a possible contentious one involving people trying to take up residence in the gentleman’s basement against his wishes, Craig sent a retired Navy SEAL to do the install, reassure the gentleman and make a presence known while posting the signs to hopefully deter the unwanted house mates.
Resolved their health situations.
About 3 years ago, MSRN had a Patient Advocate named, Erica, as a member. Erica is a Nurse. I had two friends who desperately needed her help. I arranged for Erica and the friends to connect and the friends have thanked me over and over for the referral. Erica resolved their health situations that were current at that time. They, in turn, referred Erica to other people. A good success story!

I joined MSRN more than two years ago. The reasons I joined were to better serve my clients as a Planning and Elder Law Attorney and to continue to build my team of resources that can also further assist the clients when needed.
MSRN has exceeded my expectations concerning both goals. It is however, important to remember that MSRN is no different than any other group you may join. The more active you become, the more benefit you will receive.
